Studio apartment interior design project by Jax & Co. Home, featuring an antique cabinet and a reclaimed island and headboard to create a timeless and comfortable space for Airbnb guests in Torrington, Connecticut.

Studio Apartment

A former homeowner’s art studio presented a blank slate for a simple remodel with the dream of evolving it into an Airbnb. The space was above a garage built in 2005, but knowing the importance of making the space feel at home on a property adorned with an 1800’s farmhouse was what drove each decision. In the bathroom, the original sink didn’t match the history of the property, so an antique pedestal sink was installed, the walls were painted blush, and a lath accent wall was installed to bring more interest and history to the space. The kitchen cabinets were refinished in mint green, the laminate countertop was replaced with a butcherblock countertop, and beadboard was installed as a backsplash. Piecing together a mixture of industrial and antique finds, while introducing pops of color to make guests from around the world feel at home, we transformed the space into a popular Airbnb.
